Why use Hard Coated Polycarbonate?

Clearly Tough windshields are made of durable, hard coated polycarbonate for abrasion and scratch resistance. But why??? Many others claim they are using Lexan or generic polycarbonate but they are not using this high quality, scratch resistant material. So why should you make having a scratch proof windshield a priority?

In our experience, UTV’s are not for the faint of heart. They need a strong and scratch resistant windshield because they are usually used in extremely rough terrains. The windshield is often exposed to stones, pebbles, branches and other hazards. A UTV polycarbonate windshield with a scratch resistant coating is lightweight and impact resistant. It is far less likely to scratch or crack in rough conditions on the trail than lesser quality materials are. Since side by side vehicles are used in the most extreme of conditions they need a windshield that is up to the challenge.

Other windshields on the market may be made of acrylic, plexi-glass and uncoated polycarbonate materials. These lower quality products can be easily scratched and could potentially shatter upon impact. Some become so scratched and hazy that they are difficult to see through. They can be scratched simply by washing the windshield if you aren’t careful. Also, many of these materials lack the impact resistance of polycarbonate. Some are more brittle and have been known to crack at the mounting points. They also may crack if a rock or branch hits the windshield. Hard coated polycarbonate is the strongest material available and is incredibly resistant to cracking, breaking and scratching, which is why it is the only material we use.
